Join instructor Juanita Mitchell in this 3-session class at V.O. Dobbins! Students in grades 5-8 will grow their confidence in a variety of shading techniques and learn how to apply it in drawings. Students will also learn how to draw features including noses, eyes, and mouths and how to set it in proportion with a face, and will draw a simple still life to practice their shading.
Lesson 1: Practice various shading techniques in small squares (cross-hatch, blending, stippling, etc.), then shade forms to create volume (triangle to cone, circle to sphere)
Lesson 2: Drawing and shading facial features
Lesson 3: Still life day!

About Juanita Mitchell: Juanita attended Rhode Island School of Design for her BFA and BArch, and ETSU for her masters in art teaching! She taught Drawing, Intro to Art, and Ceramics at Dobyns Bennett for 29 years before retiring to enjoy her own art practice and teach privately. She encourages her students to grow beyond what they expect of themselves!
