Intro to Blacksmithing: Forged Wands (Inclusion Series)

March 9 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Practice drawing and rounding your metal, plus isolating for designs in this introductory workshop!

Students will learn some of the fundamentals of blacksmithing: drawing, rounding and squaring material, twisting, isolation, and other basics. We will also discuss how to make some more advanced twists and a few tricks geared toward getting visually appealing results in longer pieces.

We will talk about hammer control, basic tooling, items needed to set up a beginner shop, and other concepts useful to the new Smith. This is a great crash course in getting started with blacksmithing!

This workshop is part of our “Inclusion” series where we invite anyone who may not feel comfortable using these tools to join us in the metal or wood shop (or both!), learn some new skills, and meet other people who are also new to this! All of our instructors for this series are prepared for complete beginners, we hope you will join us!

Please wear cotton or non synthetic clothes that you don’t mind getting very dirty, full-length pants, and close-toed shoes.

Age 16+ (Under 18 MUST be accompanied by a guardian)
