Raspberry Pi Class

March 16 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Come learn how to program and use a Raspberry Pi!

This class is for a very beginner audience. If you are a parent that wants to understand what your kids are doing with that little electronic device school project, this class can be an asset. If you want to just see what kind of equipment is necessary to use a Raspberry Pi, this class may be an asset.

If you are a programmer already, are familiar with Linux OS, and have a basic understanding of how a Raspberry Pi works, this class may be a little boring for you.

This class will cover the following:

  • Intro to setting up a Raspberry Pi.
  • Linux commands (Debian)
  • Understand the difference between Linux, Windows, and MacOS
  • Where Linux comes from (repositories)
  • Setting up a Web Server
  • Controlling GPIOs from the web page

If you want to purchase an SDCARD to save your work you can either purchase the one that is with the equipment for $10, or you can bring your own. ***

*** SDCARDS are not all the same. Most Sandisk cards will work as long as they are Class10. I have had good luck out of the Amazon MicroSD XC Series cards that are A2 rated.

DO NOT BUY the Onn basic Walmart Card. It will fail.

Age 10+, under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Your instructor Jim Garbe has over 14 years of expertise working with micro-controllers, is a passionate Linux enthusiast for more than 20 years, and has been programming in various languages for over 18 years. Jim’s curiosity about technology has always driven him to explore innovative solutions, such as his long-time fascination with mobile phones and their potential to serve as portable computers. He often found himself wondering, “How can my phone have more computing power than my desktop?” His journey into the world of Raspberry Pi began when his wife introduced him to this groundbreaking small computer board, giving her blessing for him to purchase one. His enthusiasm for technology and learning has made him a valuable resource for anyone looking to dive into the world of microcontrollers and programming.
