Intro to Blacksmithing: Forged Spoons

Get started in Blacksmithing by forging a spoon from steel bar stock!

In this class, students will make their spoon from steel bar stock. During the spoon forging class, students will learn some of the fundamentals of blacksmithing. Drawing and spreading material, twisting, isolation, and other basics. They will also learn to use a swage block to dish material. We will talk about hammer control, basic tooling, items needed to set up a beginner shop, and other concepts useful to the new Smith.

Age 16+ (Under 18 MUST be accompanied by a guardian)

Please wear cotton or non synthetic clothes that you don’t mind getting very dirty, full-length pants, and close-toed shoes.

Brenden Bohannon is a full-time blacksmith, bladesmith, and lifelong artist hailing from Johnson City Tennessee. The opportunity to appear on the History Channel’s “Forged in Fire” led Brenden to become a full-time teaching Smith. He focuses on iron age designs and functional pieces that will last a lifetime.
